What is a Thermal Relay?

We will examine how the contactor, fuse and thermal relay can be used together in motor protection by detailing the general structure and working principles of thermal relays, which are among the most used relay types in the industry.

Structure and Working Principle

Thermal relays, which are used for safety in electrical systems, open according to temperature and provide safety by opening the circuit in case of overload and phase interruption.

  • It is generally used with contactors and fuses. In this way, by adding a thermal relay to the contactor, it is protected both against overcurrent and the contactor is protected from the effects of overheating due to overcurrent.
  • While the fuse provides protection by breaking the circuit when a certain current value exceeds, thermal relays work with the thermal heat created by the current and provide protection in the adjusted current region.
  • VIKOTermic Relays offer current adjustment range from 0.4A to 93A in accordance with CE norms according to TS EN 60947-4-1 standard.
